Ipsy and Love With Food, March 2015

I actually made time to write this blog post today! I don’t go in until 2 today, and there was no way I was going to go to the gym with the way I’ve been feeling; it’s like I have a cold that won’t figure out what the hell it wants to be, except to suck the life out of me. I also have limited myself to 1 hour of social media a day (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for Lent, so it’s amazing how much extra time I have!

  1. Mini Lip Gloss by Cargo Cosmetics in Anguilla ($10) – I enjoyed the color of this gloss, and it goes on well. It’s not too sticky either.
  2. Up All Night Volumizing Spray by Eva NYC ($24 full price)- This product smells amazing. I love that it protects against heat while giving volume, and it doesn’t leave my hair feeling weighed down and greasy.
  3. Large Angled Face Brush 504 by Luxie Beauty ($16, price cut to $8)- This brush is so soft and is also vegan friendly, something I really appreciate in a beauty product. This will be going into rotation for blush and bronzer application.
  4. Blush Cheek Powder by ModelCo in Peach Bellini ($22)- I just about fell off my bed when I noticed that this blush is $22. Does it give me Tyra Banks’ cheekbones?
  5. Natural Eye Liner Pencil by “Pencil Me In” in Amethyst ($6.99)- I love this color. It will especially pop with my brown eyes. However, the reviewers on Ipsy say that it doesn’t go on very smoothly and can take some swipes for a clean application.

Ipsy and Love With Food December 2014

Can you believe that 2015 (and Christmas!) are only a few weeks away? Me either. Here I am, back from a 2 month hiatus (my bad), to review food and beauty products.

IMG_0171

1. AHA 3% Facial Cleanser by Beauty Without Cruelty ($11.95 full sized)- I love the smell of this, and I love even more that it’s cruelty free and organic. I would buy all organic beauty products if they were more affordable. Some people posted that it was drying, but I haven’t noticed any difference. I use my Burts Bees moisturizer this time of year regardless. It does run a higher risk of sunburn, so I only use this product at night.

2. Boost Repair Treatment by Coolway ($29.95 full sized)- My hair is very oily and has gotten worse here lately (anyone have tips on how to fix that?), so I don’t use hair masks much. I’m sure it helps dry and damaged hair. It smells good too.

3. Butter Lip Balm by NYX Cosmetics in Marshmallow ($4.00)- I love NYX. LOVE it. I was disappointed at first when I saw the color of this balm in my bag. However, I was in for a surprise. The color and feel is wonderful, and the color allows for me to wear it to work or out at night. This is easily a staple for me.

4. Fairy Dust by Pixi by Petra ($10)- This product was full sized, but I had no idea what it was until going on Ipsy. Apparently this is used to make shadow pop, but the applicator sucks and does nothing but make a mess. I haven’t tried it yet to get a full report, but it seems like a frivolous beauty product.

5. deluxe lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara by tart ($20 full sized)- Let’s just have a moment of silence for how freaking awesome this product is. Oh. My. God. My lashes looked fake they were so long! I am so pleased with this product and it will make it’s way into my shopping cart!

Ipsy Bag August 2014

I know, August is almost over. I almost missed the deadline to write this blog post. This month has just been crazy, between signing for my first ever big girl apartment, dating, un-dating (is that a word?), work stress, and a car accident in the work van, I have hardly had time to think straight (that’s my sort of apology)!

Anyway, back to the blog post.

This month’s theme was Beauty Schooled. I loved the bag it came in so much. It’s different from any other bag we’ve gotten, and it works perfectly in my purse to hold my random beauty odds and ends.

photo

Dr. Brandt “Pores No More” Pores Refiner ($45 full sized)- I already fell in love with this brand from a previous Ipsy bag. This primer went on silky smooth and gave my make up some extra lasting power. I didn’t notice a huge difference with my pore size, but it’s a great primer.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($22 full sized)- Y’all already know how much I freaking love Urban Decay, and this mascara is another major winner. It makes my lashes dark and full and super long. Once I finish my Calvin Klein mascara and this mini guy, I will be buying a full sized.

J. Cat Beauty Flying Solo Eye Shadow in Half Naked ($2.99 full sized)- Y’all also know I love full sized samples. This was a very pretty, subtle shade of peach. I enjoyed how sleek it was when you put it on. It’s perfect for me when I’m in uniform at work; nothing too intense!

Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner ($5.50 full sized)- Another full sized product! I will admit, I am not one who looks at beauty products to be organic. I just haven’t had good luck with organic products; they just don’t seem to work well. So I love it when I stumble upon an organic product that works. This chapstick is so smooth and has major staying power. I will love this product in the winter months.

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($19.50 full sized)- I have already tried this product, which was sent to me previously in my Birchbox subscription. I liked it then, and I like it now. Mini dry shampoos are awesome to keep in my desk or take with me on mini trips. This one smells amazing and leaves little to no residue in my hair. Major win.

How was your Ipsy box this month?!

I inadvertently pepper sprayed my family and other things I’ve done in the past 7 days

Yeah, you read that right.

Tonight I decided to try out a new Pinterest recipe; shrimp tostadas. They are extremely good, but the recipe required a decent amount of cayenne pepper. I didn’t think anything of it. I started cooking. And then I started coughing. And sneezing. And my eyes were watering. Keep in mind, I got sprayed in the academy (and I like to tell people it’s like someone grinding hot sand into your eyes without you being able to see anything), but I could not figure it out! And then my mom and dad started sneezing. And my mom had to use her rescue inhaler. And once we could all breathe air again (opened a lot of windows/ate dinner outside), I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe. Again.

image

I also used my Julep wand and dotting tool again. Please ignore my hot mess cuticles (“My nail beds suck”- NAME THAT MOVIE (it’s Mean Girls)).

image

I spent a lot of time with Daisy at the pool. She enjoys it when I float around on a raft, because she then throws her ball in the pool and tries to jump on me/get me soaking wet. I also am now repping some sweet raccoon eyes.

image

I also got the phone call this week that my friend and I had gotten approved for our new apartment! It’s going to be completely built in December, so we have a few months to save and buy random shit and stockpile, which is what I’ve already started doing.

image image image

I ended up spending $53 in Kohl’s (not pictured: wine stoppers. Very important) and earned $10 Kohl’s cash. I then went to Target and couponed my little heart out. My haul was $65, and I saved $62. Not bad, huh?

Hope everyone else’s week was just as wonderful!

Julep Wand Review

As I mentioned a few posts ago, I subscribed to the Julep box. For $19.99 a month, you get a choice of up to 3 nail polishes, nail products, or beauty products. I am about to cancel mine (because I am a broke bitch), so I wanted to make sure I purchased everything I wanted before I did so.

A few months ago, I purchased the Julep wand.
image

The Julep wand promises to have you painting nails like a pro. When you hold it in your dominant hand, hold it like a pen to paint your nails. For your non dominant hand, the wand actually bends.

image

That way, you can put the wand in the crook of your non dominant hand to paint your dominant hand. It takes some getting used to. However, I feel like I am pretty used to painting both hands and have my own method. So, I bought the wand for the cool add-ons you can purchase.

But! I didn’t read exactly what I was buying before I bought it. You can purchase add ons for the wand for precision brushing (like a french manicure) and a dotting tool. The wand itself is magnetic, so you can change out the parts.

I finally bought the add ons about a week ago, and they showed up today. The weather has been super crappy for the past 3 weekends, so I tried it out today.

I painted my nails per usual with the Butter nail polish. Consumers note: I bought this when I had extra points available at Ulta to see if it was worth the difference in price. As far as I can tell, it’s not much different than OPI or Essie. I then painted an accent nail with the Sally Hansen crushed gem polish, because I freaking love accent nails. I then tried out the dotting tool with the yellow Julep color. It worked really well for my dominant hand, but for the other, it took a little getting used to. I will probably experiment a little more before I can be deemed a pro.

Here’s how it turned out:

All in all, I do enjoy the Julep wand. I’m hoping I can get more comfortable with it and crank out nail decorations like a pro.

Ipsy bag July 2014, “Sensationally Sunkissed”

Another month, another Ipsy bag! You guys know the drill. $10 a month and you get some sweet samples, plus a really cool bag to store your own make up essentials in!

2014-07-18 12.27.56

1. bareMinerals 5 in 1 BB eye shadow cream in Barely Nude ($18 full size)- Y’all know I love bareMinerals. I already use their powder on a daily basis. I wasn’t sure about this product, because I haven’t used cream eyeshadow in a long time, and the color didn’t thrill me in the bottle. Boy, I was wrong. It goes on smooth, has major staying power, and the color created a classic smoky effect. This is going into my beauty routine.
2. Clear Clinical Laboratories Spot Remover ($35 full size)- I love that this spot treatment comes with its own applicator for no mess application. It’s also clear, so it can easily be put on under make up. I actually have two zits I’m trying to get rid of currently, so I’m hopeful this will speed up the process!
3. Elizabeth Mott Tint and Sass ($22.99 full size)- I’m not a big fan of liquid lip/cheek tint, and this is no different. It’s quite sticky, even after it dries. I will not be using this product.
4. Hang Ten Dark Tanning Oil ($11.99 full size)- I love tanning oil. Save me the speech. I know skin cancer is awful, and melanoma is the leading cancer among 20-something females. I totally get it. That being said, I love tanning oil. I am very excited to use this on a day when it’s not overcast (like it is today!).
5. Nailtini in Mangorita ($13 full size)- I had high hopes for this product. I loved the color in the bottle and on my nails. It’s cool when you get a product from Ipsy that you would never pick for yourself. However, immediately after putting it on, it started to chip. And today, the polish on two of my nails pulled off in chunks. I will not even consider this product. What’s worse is the price; Essie and OPI don’t even cost that much!

Does anyone else out there subscribe to Ipsy? If anyone is interested in trying the Tint and Sass or the Nailtini, I am more than willing to trade. 🙂 Just leave a comment in the box!

Ipsy Bag May 2014

I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend. I feel rejuvenated and back to my old self. I’ve been in a funk lately, and a fun weekend filled with laughter, sun, and some adult beverages are just what the doctor ordered.

I got my Ipsy bag this weekend, and I am, once again, obsessed. If you’re new to this, Ipsy bags are $10 a month and are filled with a bunch of make up and beauty goodies.

image

This months theme was “fresh picks.” I love the burlap-esque bag everything came in.
1. Therapy Session Hair Mask by Eva NYC ($12 full sized)- I LOVE it when I get a full sized product that pays for the entire bag. I will definitely be using this product once the summer is in full swing. My hair can use some rejuvenation after being attacked by salt, chlorine, and sun.
2. Mineral Eyeshadow Duo by Pacifica in Celestial and Opal ($14 full sized)- The colors in this duo are so pretty and sheer. These are perfect for a soft look for work, where I tend to go minimal most days of the week.
3. Microdermabrasion Scrub by derma e ($29.25 full sized)- As I’ve said before, I love scrubs. This one smells amazing. What’s even better is that I’ll be able to use this a few times to see if it actually works. It’s hard to commit to a product when you’re not sure about it.
4. Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask by Hey Honey ($35 full sized)- Yep. I love peel off masks. There’s something fun about peeling off dirt from your face, literally. I was very excited to find this in my bag.
5. Sans Tan Anti-aging Sunscreen by Jersey Shore Sun ($40 full sized)- I really disliked this product. It had a strange consistency and left my face feeling gross. There’s also no way in hell I’m paying $40 for 2 oz. of sunscreen. No thanks.

Although I didn’t like the sunscreen, Ipsy doesn’t disappoint me, just like every month. Are you convinced yet?

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. We’re having a retirement luncheon on Friday for one of my coworkers, so I’m looking forward to that. I’m going to work on an arrangement to give to her as a remembrance. Next weekend, I get to see one of my sorority sisters in Ocean City, MD, and have a Memorial Day Party to go to on Sunday. So instead, here’s to hoping this week goes by fast!
